Peter and Tom visit America Posted by Wayne Smith July 20th, 2015 As many of you will have doubtless been aware, over the past few weeks Peter and Tom have been State side visiting a number of friends and new clients cross the USA. Their two week tour took them across America from Phoenix to New York with a few stops in between. Here is a quick report of their trip and a few photos thrown in as well… On the 26th June, both Peter and Tom met up at Heathrow airport, ready to depart to Phoenix via Chicago for their first leg of their American visit. First stop was Scotsdale, Phoenix to meet a new client who Peter had been speaking with for a number of years. Phoenix in the summer heat reaches upwards of 55c! Therefore air conditioning was welcome! In Phoenix, Peter installed a brand new LP12 and stripped an old deck down for the clients father. After a day’s worth of work stripping and building both decks, as well as giving both systems the once over both systems were really singing! Tom and Peter levelling a set of Epos loudspeakers As well as the work in Phoenix, Peter has also organised for a few days relaxing with the client John. On offer was a day at Lake Saguaro with John and his 300bph super boat! An offer too good to turn down! Below is Peter before heading out on their first run of the day! From Phoenix, Peter and Tom flew to Chicago to meet with a customer that Peter had visited a number of times. Flying in mid afternoon meant that they landed at around 4pm meaning a quick tour of the city by car before heading out for dinner. Quick tour of Chicago by car The afternoon mist rolls over the skyscrapers of Chicago coming directly off Lake Michigan The following day it was straight down to business with 2 LP12’s to strip down and build. The build included the installation of a Tiger Paw Elevator for Aro, Linn Kandid and Chord Sarum Cabling. As you can see below, the clients room is something a bit special and the system was really singing once both decks had been rebuilt! In the afternoon, whilst taking a break from rebuilding the LP12s, Peter, Tom, the client Mark and his son all headed to down town Wheaton to do a spot of vinyl shopping! Wallets lighter and bags considerably heavier they managed to get some really great cuts, in particular a number of remastered RUSH albums that you will be able to hear on your next visit to Cymbiosis! Sound testing the first LP12 with the second in the jig. Both LP12s rebuilt and in their new home. From Chicago, Tom and Peter were picked by the next client and had the 3 hour trip south to Indianapolis. Indianapolis was a new stop for Peter meeting a brand new client. The first night Peter and Tom arrived, they went for dinner in downtown Indianapolis and then explored the city with the client Eric and his wife on by bike, taking in downtown Indi via the cities cycle routes. Day 2 included a visit to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and a visit around their historic museum with cars from across the ages. On the evening of day 2, the LP12 work began with the installation of a Linn Radikal, Dynavector XX2 and Aro Kore and a new walnut plinth, this included a full strip down and rebuild of the LP12! Late night bike ride around Indianapolis. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway museum, 1292 Bugatti. System really rocking with a set of Naim SBL loudspeakers. From Indianapolis, Tom and Peter met up with the next client and drove the 3 hour drive to Evansville, Kentucky. After arriving in Kentucky, Peter set to work on the LP12, building the LP12 including Linn Ekos SE, Radikal, Keel. Once the deck was built it was out to downtown Evansville to watch the 4th July fireworks before retiring back to get some sleep before the early flight to New York. Tom and Peter celebrating American 4th July Independence day. After an early fright from Evansville to New York, Peter and Tom touched down at around 4pm before heading straight out for dinner. After a good night sleep it was straight to work on the LP12, stripping the deck down to install a Chris Harban Curly Maple and brand new Linn Kandid! As you can see from the photos below, the new plinth was a real stunner and looked beautiful sitting on a brand new Tiger Paw VulKan wall shelf. After playing around with some Chord Sarum interconnect cables, Peter also had time to try out the new Chord Company Silent Mount Floor Protectors. You can read Peters thoughts here, but safe to say they blew us away with their performance and modest price tag! The new Chris Harban Woodsong Audio plinth all ready to be built up! Peter hard at work building up the LP12. The finished article, the Chris Harban Woodsong Curly Maple LP12 fully built in the jig. Peter cleaning, levelling and re-torqing the Kudos Titan T88s Finally, after the work on the system was complete, it was time to relax, so Peter, Tom and the client Gregg took a day out in Down Town Manhattan, exploring the famous sites, visiting the brand new Freedom Tower and also doing a bit of shopping along the way! Time Square, New York Quick bite to eat at Katz Deli, famous NY Eatery! Ground 0 fountain 2, New York The New York Freedom Tower and Ground 0 fountain 1 View looking back up the island of Manhattan. So after 14 days covering the states Peter and Tom have visited 5 cities, 6 different clients and rebuilt 7 LP12s! Another brilliant trip to see new clients and old friends, both Tom and Peter would like to thank everyone they visited for their hospitality and we hope that everyone is enjoying listening to there systems and making full use of their LP12!
